Today’s entrepreneurial world is predominantly male. As a female, trying to carve a foot-hold – or even a toe-hold, getting into this world can be a challenging task. It may be a difficult road, but achieving success is definitely not an impossible task for woman entrepreneurs.
Women who inspire to become successful woman entrepreneurs do not have an easy road ahead of them. In comparison to their male counterparts, women will have to work longer and harder in order to become successful. But there are plenty of famous woman entrepreneurs who have managed to make it to the top.
So What Were Their Keys to Success?
Woman entrepreneurs have the ability to be successful, sometimes, depending on their target market, they can be more successful than than their male competition. The main thing that a woman entrepreneur needs is the belief that they will be successful. Mary Kay Ash, the founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics, once said “You can go as far as your mind lets you”. So if you believe in yourself, you will be able to make me. It may sound like the inside of a Hallmark card, but it’s true!
While woman entrepreneurs are still seen as unequal to their male counterparts, the ability to get ahead of the men is achievable. The key is to be unique and memorable. By supplying a very unique product or service, you will have that edge over your competitors – regardless of their gender. All you need is a really good idea that people will remember.
Another idea, that is perhaps easier for a woman entrepreneur to grasp, is to see what you can give back to your customers. In addition to a great product, give them something else that they can benefit from or appreciate as consumers. Branding is also an important part of business. Branding does not necessarily mean a logo or color scheme. Although a good brand has a strong combination of both of these things, it also needs to create a memorable impression. A woman entrepreneur will often have the upper hand when it comes to branding. In most households, it is the women who does the weekly shopping in the home.
As such, she makes decisions on what to buy and why. One day, she might see a product with nice packaging, for example a dishwasher detergent, and she will purchase it because it looks nice, she will try it and then form an opinion on it. She will be able to see how one product compares to another and decide which one is better. Whereas her husband may only be able to tell her that one is in a blue box and one is in a green bottle. Because men are not the primary, hands-on consumer of the product, they will not be able to determine which one is the more effective product. By being the main buyer in the household, a women has the tools to be a successful entrepreneur.
From being able to know first hand how a consumer makes purchases and forms opinions on products, a woman will know what a person buying a product will look for and expect. She will see how a product can be improved upon, or packaged in a more effective way. She knows exactly what it is that the customer wants – and this is what makes a woman entrepreneur successful. By being able to offer a service or product that is superior than the competition and exceeds their customers’ expectations, the woman will soon join the other woman entrepreneurs in the business world.
