A man goes to his bank manager and says, "I'd like to start a small business. How do I go about it?" The bank manager leans back, clasps his hands together on his gut and replies, "Buy a big one and wait."
You can choose to follow bank manager’s advice, but probably you need another ones:
1. Market what people want to buy, not what you want to sell (investigate the market, learn what people are interested in and what problems they need to solve)
2. Make plan – overestimate cost and underestimate income (at least in the beginning you have to do that )
3. Learn before earn! (‘If you think education is expensive, try igorance’ ~ Derek Bok)
4. Get a coach (don’t reinvent the wheel – get someone who can give an outsider’s view on your problems)
5. Don’t discount your products, add value (hold your price, increase values with low-cost or no cost offers)
6. Test and measure results (you can’t change what you don’t track and measure)
7. Don’t quit! (that is the most important point – you will fail before getting results, it’s the part of the game)
